Music Festival on the Beach!

Druridge Bay is the venue for this year’s Coquetfest, a brilliant four-day festival of music right on the beach, with something for the whole family to enjoy. Apart from the musical entertainment, there will be workshops for the kids (and grown-up kids!) on making music from junk and getting messy with art and crafts. There will also be bars and plenty of street food to tempt visitors during the event, which runs from 17th to 20th August (Thursday-Sunday).

Looking for a fun day out for all the family? The Weardale Agricultural Society’s Chapel Show in County Durham on Saturday 26th August might be right up your street (or field). Apart from all the animals on show (including dogs and children’s pets), there’s a packed programme of other activities, including a cross-country run, falconry demonstrations, archery, climbing wall and soft play area, as well as numerous trade and craft stands and a farmers’ market.

Or head into the heart of the Northumberland countryside for the Bellingham Show & Country Festival, also on 26th August. On the menu are live bands, horses, sheep, terrier racing, good food, crafts, archery, wrestling, Northumbrian piping, clay pigeon shooting, beer tents, vintage vehicles, a dog show, fell racing, children’s fairground rides and much more.

Younger kids will love ‘Squawk’, appearing at Alnwick Garden on 22nd/23rd August. Adventurer Captain Jon Voyage and his avian amigos – two vibrant birds in all the colours of the rainbow – will be on hand, keen to explore their surroundings with visitors to the garden! With their inquisitive beaks and joyful squawks, they’re guaranteed to make a visit to Alnwick Garden even more special and memorable. The entertainment is included in the entry ticket.

Families with children of 12 and under should check out Simonside Forestry Commission’s Wild Wednesdays, a great way for children to explore and enjoy Northumberland National Park. On the agenda on 23rd August will be Orien‘tree’ing! Families can navigate their way around the forest, find out more about these mighty giants and see if they can name a few. Sure to be ‘tree-mendous’ fun . . .

Head to Eshott Airfield, near Morpeth, for the Wings & Wheels Festival, a spectacular summer event for the whole family to enjoy. You’ll be able to watch Spitfires and Hurricanes performing for the crowds and view the incredible mix of supercars, classic cars, vintage machines and static aircraft on the ground. Other attractions include international stunt teams, military demonstrations, live music, food and licensed bars. The event runs from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th August.
